6/8/09 we set off for 4 hour drive to hervey Bay which is north of Brisbane. We stopped off at the beach then a koala centre on the way. Beautiful appartment in Hervey Bay. We went out for nice dinner. After bracing dip in pool the next morning we got ferry over to Fraser Island. This 80 mile long island 30 minutes by ferry is made ofr sand blown by the south easterly prevailing wind. The Kingfisher resort is gorgeous. We have a villa. They have rangers here and we went on a night walk and saw a scary spider and our first bandicoot. In the morning we got up early and went on a bird walk and joy of joys after 43 years of waiting I saw a kingfisher. We saw loads of other good stuff too. We then went on a 4WD bus through all the sand dunes and over rocks nad through the water on a tour of the island (well bits) with Dave the mad driver who was fab and had us in fits. We saw 3 dingos along the way. In the evening we also had a talk on dingos so we know everything about them now - ask away!
9/8/09 - P&T up early for 2 laps of the resort (a dingo friendly run I can assure you) then pool and off island to go whale watching. Hervey Bay is Australias whale watching capital and this time Pete fulfilled his ambition as saw loads of whales and dolfins. It was glorious! - see the picture. After that back to Brisbane for night before we fly to Cairns tomorrow.
